Scope of clinical and surgical services in general and specialised Dermatology

Approximately 70% of Professor Vega-López’ clinical practice involves the diagnosis and treatment of general dermatological or inflammatory conditions and skin cancer. Amongst the former diagnoses he provides care for pigmented naevi, moles, itchy skin, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, acne, seborrhoeic conditions, contact dermatitis, leg ulcers, benign/non-cancerous skin tumours, hair and nails disorders, common skin infections, and sun damage. Common skin malignant conditions seen in his practice include basal cell carcinoma, Bowen’s disease, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, and less often, forms of skin lymphoma or sarcoma. His remaining clinical work is dedicated to patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, cancer chemotherapy-associated skin disorders, travel-associated skin conditions, tropical dermatology, HIV-related skin problems, and other rare infections or infestations of the skin, in particular, granulomatous infections and cutaneous leishmaniasis.

A considerable number of patients treated by Professor Vega-López with dermatological conditions (from 10% up to 40% of cases) require minor surgical procedures for diagnosis or definite treatment. He carries his minor operations under local anaesthetic in a dedicated surgical suite with specialist nursing care. This surgical theatre is located next door to Professor Vega-López’ office and views of this facility can be accessed via the following link:
